I'd be willing to test. Cam specs below;

Canon Powershot S5 IS
Firmware: 1.01b
OS: DryOS

http://ewavr.nm.ru/chdk/for_test/dng/s5is-101b.zip
Extension can be changed  to DNG in RAW menu.
Don't forget turn off / turn on camera after shooting and before PC connection. Use Windows explorer (I don't know how it works with other software).

Okay, here's the scoop;

When I set it to .DNG for the extension it worked flawlessly. Both single and conitnuous worked fine and output DNG files with the file name CRW_####.DNG. And the files can be opened fine too after transfer.

Transferring: Works fine in reader (cut and paste), but when connected to cable, only the jpeg is seen and copied both from the canon transfer agent on my computer and when looking at the files in the scanners and cameras media file, I only see the jpeg.

I always use my reader for transferring, but thought I'd try the other as well. It all works fine, but the transfer through the USB cable is a bit iffy.

My report:
A720IS.

With the crw extension the dng raw files are transfered together with the jpegs using the usb and the camera window transfer tool by Canon.
 Camera Window doesn't show the dng raw files, just the jpegs and avi, but the raw files are transfered to the PC.

And the dng raw files (with crw extension) are loaded ok with all my softwares: photoshop, rawtherapee, xnview... And I can work ok with them.

I really don't see the need to change the extensions to DNG.
I'm using windows XP.

At the very least, it would be convenient to have the option to change the extension to .dng.

Mine didn't transfer with the jpegs at all.

Well, I think many of us are using card readers, instead of crappy camera interface to transfer files, so problems with file extension are unimportant for us ... so it would be fine to have an option to name files as .dng

@binsurf

Are you storing the raw in the same folder with jpegs?

I had .DNG in the firmware to try with my S2is and when DNG are or are not store in the same folder with jpegs  only the jpeg is seen and copied both from the canon transfer agent on my computer and when looking at the files in the scanners and cameras media file, I only see the jpeg.

I have a problem with "show_bad_b.exe", it seems to always give "Total: 6069.".
I've just tested on 3 raw-files, one 1sec, one 10sec and one 64sec exposure.

All three badpixel.bin's is identical and 24276 bytes big.

Is there some bug in this program, or do i have way to many bad pixels?

Edit:
Just tested with shorter exposure, then it seems to work.
