tried many different settings of the OSD Menu and Canon Original OSD (with DISP Button press), but there is nothing to see.
I have to say that on my camera when i take a picture the screen gets black for a short time and then comes back to normal Display. but no Information about saving time (shoot be where the scripts are visible?)

@quietschi

I get same behaviour on ixus70-101b, the 'black screen after shooting' does not appear to be
influenced by the review time setting. I just switched off the option.
Same on A620, except here, after the black screen i can 'see' the info for a fraction of a
second in the left bottom corner - not long enough to read it, or even be sure ...

It might be better to write this info to a log file if more cams react like this ?

Same here. Information only sticks around for a fraction of a second.

Shooting in continous mode makes it stay, though, and reveals saving times of about 970ms for CHDK RAW, and 2000ms for DNG.  :D

DNG with buffer 1660ms
DNG no buffer    2690ms
RAW                   710ms

@hacki
you are right in continious mode it works

@whim
maybe its better to include this function as a kind of benchmark in debug

btw about the extensions:
GNU Canon Camera Utilities
last paragraph. it seems to be possible to "hack" into the wia driver to be able to display all kinds of files.

the problem is the transfer to the pc via usb. as far as i understood ewavr, he is already working on that part, by replacing a normally unused extension with dng.

For A710 this problem is solved (DNG instead of DPS+THM).
Maybe for many cameras DPS is impossible extension, but can be implemented "DNG instead of CR2".
If someone wants to test this feature, I'll make test version (please specify camera name and firmware version, DRYOS is preferred).

I'd be willing to test. Cam specs below;

Canon Powershot S5 IS
Firmware: 1.01b
OS: DryOS

i guess dps is available on every camera with a print button?

In A710 (for example) camera firmware uses *.DPS file name mask to search files at USB connection in A/DCIM/nnnCANON folders (*.CR2 mask absent).
In SX100IS(for example) no *.DPS mask present (only filenames like DDISCVRY.DPS, DRSPONSE.DPS etc), but  *.CR2 mask present.
In other cameras (for example, A570) both *.DPS and *.CR2 masks are present.
We cannot add new mask (because these masks stored in ROM), but can change any of exitsting mask to other (because some function which uses this masks called only by pointer stored in RAM).
