I've seen thst most of the powershot cams have a foolish tendency to shift orange colors to yellows, and yellows to greens.
This renders foliages quite inaccurately. The RAW also behaves in similar way no matter how you adjust color balance.
The kodak ultramax films I've used in old days were free from these problems. Also EOS350D renders those colors accurately.

Example1, EOS 350D
Example2, Kodak ULTRAMAX 400
Example3, Powershot G5
Example4, A720IS

Note how KODAK & EOS has managed to keep warm colors of trees as well as the blue sky,whereas the G5 & A720 renders dull, unrealistic green color, even in sunny day. If I change the white balance in A720 RAW to look the tree yellowish like the first two
examples, the whole picture gets yellow cast. In short, the color of EOS & film look lot more realistic to me rather than that of powershots. Is there any postprocessing solution to this?

At last I've found somewhat satisfactory answer, that is to use channel mixer in RawTherapee when developing the raw.

hm, those pictures, are they shot at the same day at the same location under the same light conditions? can't really compare them :(

I think they aren't.

Also, correct me if I am wrong but judging from shadows example 2 is taken at twilight, and that is the most important cause of its warm colors...

(I was fool enough to look at the EXIF info of that file... Who cares if it comes from film.... :-)

sorry but he's got right(but with these images can't really compare)
I own two canon cameras and there are big differences between two cameras' colours

important notice:
i'm using an IBM crt monitor, i don't really like lcd screens

a650 in normal mode gives pretty realistic image without noticeable color shift (awb not too great, have to use manual wb)

a630 manages colours pretty strange in normal auto mode, it's too oversaturated, channels almost clipped(green,red), tone of the skin is reddish when using flash, the sky is not really blue, it's almost cyan.... but it looks pretty ok on my old notebook's lcd screen, and the difference between the two cameras not really noticeable on lcd (strange) !!! there seems to be only a small difference on saturation.

using neutral color mode & manual white balance(using ordinary copy paper to get a bit yellowish wb), both of them give pretty accurate colors, and they look almost the same on any screen (a630 image is still saturated a bit more)

Sorry, you're right in saying so.
But experience the diffrence (channel mixer applied to the jpeg in photoshop) with the picture I've shot today.

Example1: No postprocessing
Example2: The jpeg of example1 after using channel mixer

Although there much fault in my channel mixing, (It is somewhat overdone,I'm afraid, due to my inexperience) the actual scene looked somewhat like example2 as it was 3:42 pm by then. (Check EXIF)

(Conclusion:The warm color we see in trees/grass in the afternoon has yellow/orange hue, not green as rendered by Canon)

did you try to set white balance manually?
did you try to use neutral mode?

that's probably because most laptop's LCDs can only show about 262000 colours, even when in 32-bits screen resolutions (they
map the colours internally from 16 million -> 262K )

a bit OT, but thought you might like to know

i just looked at the photos taken yesterday(with a650):
some of them used autoWB and  that strong green grass and trees was
the others look perfect because i used preset WB...
btw... a650 and a720 got similar colors (saw on flickr)... so i reccomend to pay attention to whitebalance

the problem is not really there at the bit depths... the lcd's quality is really poor
if i switch my pc's video card to 16 bits colours(aero theme stopped...) i still got good image quality on the screen, only on soft gradients is visible the effect of the lower colour count, on normal images taken with a p&s you won't really notice that i'm using 32000 colours (uses only 15 bits)
