The kind of "what is this?" photography puzzles I've seen envolve a close up to a mundane object. Something everybody knows but the picture is taken too close to guess easily. That makes people get desperate and the result is very funny.

When I saw your picture I almost answered "it's a flower!". Now I know that would have been silly. This contest was aimed to florists and gardening enthusiasts.

What is this?

wontolla: Could be some of that rough metal stuff you clean things in the kitchen with (and soldering irons too, I guess that's pretty much the same stuff Weller sells nowadays)?

(And no, I'm no florist, botanist nor do I have a garden but I do eat chives :D)

the ping pong ball lookalike.looks a bit like a giant snail egg or something.well somekind of egg.
could also be from some lizard.
my wierdest guess!! its a smokebubble!! you know you can blow a soap bubble and use a straw to
blow smoke inside the bubble.looks pretty cewl when the bubble bursts,hope to see pics of some of
those imploding...hint hint..

and i think fudgie got wontolla's quiz right some kind of coarse steel wool.potcleaner.

Btw cewl quiz idea,i like both versions.if the quiz starter knows the identity of the object that is...lol

I've never seen a steel scrubber.  I thought the point was to have a metal that was softer than your pans so that you wouldn't scratch them.  Though copper ones I have do corrode and make a mess.

@fe50: in effects, it's an electric bulb "plugged" in an artichoke leaf...

I am giving two versions:
a) large file, resuzed and leveled in Photoshop
b) detail, original size

To help a bit, I will tell you that it was made yesterday night, 30" exposure, and it couldn't be possible in other seasons.
