What issues with SD870IS?

Hi there,

Just wondering if someone could tell me what works and what doesn't with anSD870IS and allbest, #51-407? From what I can make out the ND filter state doesn't work but is anyone aware of any other issues. Thanks in advance!

Chris

Chris,

the ND filter control is definitely not working yet (posted here, a kind of workaround is described here).

Most of the other features work well (e.g. USB remote, scripts, Bracketing, Zebra, Histogram, RAW...), we do not have video settings yet.
The cam always starts in playback mode (have to press the shutter for record mode), CHDK only works in bootable SD Card mode (no fw-update with Canon menu, as on all DryOS cameras) - and there's the "Touch Icons Behaviour"...(see this post).

Thanks for your help. Still not sure I understand how to prevent the chdk menus from disapearing. Even when OSD is enabled with the DISP button the menus still disappear when in capture mode. It doesn't appear to happen in playback mode. Not sure if I'm missing something?... Thanks again. :)

No, there's no solution yet, the menu will be overpaintet always you touch (half-press) the wheel-buttons.
You can either switch to playback mode (also when already in CHDK menu) use it "blind"...stay on the wheel...

If i find some time the next days i'll have a look to the source...

Hey intrnst,

is this the tit-for-tat response for sending all the newbies to your CHDK for Dummies - The Very First Steps ?  :P

While answering some SD870 questions i thought of publishing an article with hints to this baby, too.
The IXUS 860is / SD870 could get very coveted, it's Canon's one & only P&S cam with wide angel zoom (that's why i bought this one).
So yes, i can do so...needs some time & will be done in a couple of tiles but it'll be helpfull for some peoples.

I'll follow to your space only if there's a cold beer waiting, cheers...

So, started (without beer, so i used a coffee), but stopped now because off my enormous deprivation of sleep, try to find time working on it the next day(s)...

As you correctly got, my middle name is revenge!  >:(

Thank you for your fast help at wikia, I really appreciate it.

And you should go for your article, a tricky cam needs some good paths already open. Good luck on that!

Cheers!

@fe50

Keep up the good work! And thanks for taking the time to update the 870 for CHDK. I'm looking forward to what you come up with for video :-)
