I can't get CHDK to work on my Canon 860 IS (SD870)

Hello,

I've had a read through most of the Wiki and decided to go underway and try to install CHDK onto my Canon 860 IS (SD870)

I went to the Downloads page and downloaded:

IXUS860 fw v1.00c (US model designation: SD870)

After following the wiki and having no luck getting the firmware to work on my camera I stumbled across onto the forum and found this .pdf file: http://www.willylorenzo.com/chdkguide/CHDKGuideInProgress03.pdf and even after reading it I followed everything exactly and still no luck.

What am I doing wrong?

I've downloaded the file, extracted it, copied PS.FIR and DISKBOOT.BIN files onto the SD card (2GB Sandisk) then ran the bootable_mod.exe and entered my memory cards location which is I: (an inbuilt SD card reader on my Asus notebook). I then put the SD card back into my camera turn it on via the [Playback] mode and press menu and scroll to the bottom (or press up) to find the firmware upgrade button but no luck?

Any ideas why? I've even tried coping everything from the .zip/.rar file onto my Memory Card but that didn't help either :(

Any help would be greatly appriciated

Welcome bwen,

For SD870 there's only 1 file "diskboot.bin" (as on all DryOS cameras), so i think you downloaded something wrong...so load the last Allbest built for SD870_101c (*see my signature).

SD870 only works with autostart from a bootable disc, so make it bootable, look here

You can manage it easy with cardtricks, see here.

*smacks head with hand* downloded the wrong one. How stupid could I be!

A quick question though, after installing CHDK is there a way so when I press the on/off button to turn on my camera for the camera to boot into recording mode instead of review mode?

And also is there a way to turn off the little red text box on the top of the screen? it says [Zoom: 4.6 F Synch:0.0000] with a red text box around it.

Cheers

it seems you got yourself a copy of Stereo Data Maker. There somewhere is a manual regarding that, i dont know if you can switch off that particular behaviour.
see What firmware should i use? for more info.
