Is there a way to save custom settings? Every time I set the shooting mode to "continuous" or to "spot meter" these settings go back to default when I turn the camera off. A bit of a pain. Couldn't CHDK be used for that somehow?

not yet. has been asked a million times, will probably integrated someday.
see 1st link in my sig, this feature wish is somewhere in there.
