This is all new, but CHDK is very cool!
My Questions are about build 51 and the best way to be able to use a USB remote cable switch and do bracketed shots with the A720? Can the built in functions for bracketing be used in conjunction with a USB Remote?
Is there a way to access functions that are embedded in the build via scripts??
eg...
If a short script were to handle getting params and
detecting for is_key "remote"
Is there any mechanism to pass parameters on to and return from
the function that handles the bracket exposures???
I'm just thinking that it would eliminate some of the variants that come up with operations on different cameras.

Or is the only practical way to do remote activation of bracketing to write a script specifically to do this.

So now that I have had some time to look around at the information available on this site...........
It seems that using the Extra Photo Operations=>
continuous shooting bracketing,
and controlling the number of shots via camera's custom timer, seems to be the way to go.

If it turns out that controlling the shutter release remotely is practical
I will test using a remote usb shutter release and a short script testing for is_key "remote"

My logic at this point is that I might get away with running a script to shoot while the camera is set up for bracketing using the Extra Photo Operations, but since I will have to be in ALT Mode in order to run the script I'm not sure what will happen.

Has anyone tried this?

The SDM version of CHDK has continuous-mode bracketing using remote switch :-

Does this mean that SDM has the capability to utilize a usb remote switch without running a remote script??
Is that the Ricoh mode??

I'm having a tough time trying to find out what builds have built in remote functionality...
that do not require a script.
or even how exactly to take full advantage of something like the allbest enable remote(usb).
eg.. script needed or not
if enabled
just plug in switch and go?
disable for uploading to computer?

I know it's a lot of stuff to ask. If you know where I can find more info on enable remote functions for current builds
I would really really appreciate it.

Yes, just turn-on the camera and press the switch.
It can be an ordinary switch or a Ricoh.

Exactly.
In non-Ricoh mode you have to run a script.

For SDM, virtually all of them apart from ixus700, s2is and s3is.

That stops some cameras going into photo-download mode when you press the button.

The AllBest builds need a script.

Jucifer/PhyrePhox have copied most of the Ricoh switch stereo code into their builds so it may work on them as well.

Thanks for the help Microfunguy,

The pulse train decoding code opens up lots of possibilities.
With an optical or rf link, it could turn evolve into full blown remote control.
