On my A720IS I am having this problem also.  The canon file numbering menu setting is now and has been Continuous.  I have shot a few RAW photos, they were numbered CRW_0020 thru CRW_0025.  I've also taken over a hundred .jpgs since I got the cam and started using CHDK last week.  Yesterday I moved all files from the DCIM\100CANON folder to the hard drive on my PC.  Today I took some pics (no RAW) using the same card, all jpegs, and the file numbering of the 18 images started at IMG_0008.JPG.

I just moved those 18 images off the card.  Took some pictures with CHDK disabled, Canon File Numbering menu option set to continuous and the file numbering began at IMG_0001.JPG

Actually, the exact steps for the last para of my prior post, I took were to move the pics off camera by inserting card in card reader
--reinserting card in cam w/ autoboot enabled
--started cam checked CHDK menus for anything related to numbering
--removed card and disabled autoboot
--restarted cam w/ CHDK disabled
--file numbering restarted at 0001 and took 3 pics (numbered 0001-0003)

And more recently,
--I examinded card folder structure via PC/card reader
--reinserted card w/ no pics in 100CANON folder
--powered on cam w/ CHDK disabled
--took a couple pics
--numbering continued starting at 0004

fe50: I did tried what you said, but the result was the same... As soon as the RAW image save in on, the numbering gets reset... :(

There are other CHDK forum threads of a fixed file numbering bug for A530/540 builds.  Is this bug related to what is reported above?  And if so, can it be incorporated into Albest for A720?

I really wouldn't know. I'm new to chdk, and this was my first obstacle... :(

You can fix the file numbering by putting the last picture you took (with the highest number) in the folder where pictures are usually saved, then power up your camera and take a couple of pictures. They should start incrementing with the number above the last photo on the card.

Thank you

I knew that trick and fixed it that way. Nevertheless, whenever I turn on the RAW save in CHDK, it gets back to 0.
