Canon S2IS - Problem with RAW resolution.

I just got the firmware on my camera, everything loaded fine.  I can take raw images, and view/edit do whatever I want with them.  However it only takes the raw pictures at half resolution.  I've looked around the menus for settings for the resolution, but i have failed.  The .jpeg still comes out at full resolution though.

A little help please?

That's weird.

What are the resolutions of your JPG and RAW files? How do you know that information?

Normally, the RAW file resolution is slightly bigger than the JPG one.

1308x980 for the .crw and 2592x1944 for the .jpeg

the program i am using to view the images (fast stone image viewer) is telling me the resolution.  It's the first program that actually worked for me that I downloaded.  The .crw files are still 6+ MB per file, does this sound right?

maybe this image viewer just merges the four GRBG Bayer pattern subpixels into one pixel
1) not needing a debayer alogrithm
2) achieving high decoding speed
3) 1308x980 commonly is sufficient for monitor viewing


get dng4ps to convert you CRW + JPG files to dng with integrated thumbnail for fast image preview.
the DNG will be around 4MB in size without loss in quality.

The DNG can then used with nearly any RAW-Converter

Thanks downloading now.

I wanted to shop some photos i'm taking for fathers day.  I don't know how well 8x10's will turn out at that resolution.

The FastStone image viewer has a "fast" mode option for RAW files, it displays them in half-size. Turn that to "slow" mode or press the A key while viewing an image to see it full size.

Anytime someone reports their RAW files being half size you can be certain that they are using FastStone viewer and don't know how to use it.

I was confused with the .dng file at first, but it opens in photoshop.  Thank you very much it is now full resolution!

A little hint: a good viewer for DNG's is XNView (free for privat use) (Free graphic and photo viewer - XnView - GRAPHIC VIEWER)...
