Uploading your own photos to the camera???

I just tried to upload some of my own jpg's to the camera to use for reference. I used the same naming scheme as the camera. The camera wouldn't display them in Review. I got an A720is and I am on a Mac. I uploaded to the SD card using a card reader.
Is this possible?
I did a CHDK search on this and came up with nothing  appropriate.

Hi madoleone,

yes it's possible to upload own pictures to your A720is:

fotocommunity: Kamera-Gespann als 3D-Betracht

(Sorry text in german)

I am working in the windows world so no details for Mac.

Your procedure using the cardreader is ok.

Just make sure you

- use the cams naming convention IMG_XXXX.JPG
- use supported resolutions starting with 640x480 pixel
- be sure to set the proper orientation of the picture
- be sure to have Exif Information in your files

Do you save your pictures after working on it for example in "JPG Exif Digital Still Camera format"
or something similar?

Use an Exif Viewer to check that.

Thanks much.
Actually I uploaded four photos of some artwork and surprisingly one of them would display in Preview. The others said  "incompatible JPG". So I was on the right track. I will experiment. Thanks again for the info.

Thanks. It was all a lot of help. The German Pdf was really good.

But this advice I couldn't follow:

Take a picture, save it to the PC, open it up in ANY image editing software, DO NOT RESIZE IT, and paste over the map. Save back over the original on the camera.

SHOULD work...

I am on an iMac but could switch to XP. I copied the jpgs to my desktop with a cardreader. Opened it in GraphicConverter.
And now what do I paste over what? To PASTE I have to COPY something don't I?

Here I get lost. Could someone babywalk me through this?

Hi,
That advice was for someone familiar with images and editing.  It means open both jpeg files in an image editor, copy the image from one file into the image in the Canon file.

If you don't understand then this is probably too difficult for you.
