".......  my built-in timelapse mode works only at 640x480 .......

cyril42e,

Interesting; I had assumed, from what little I'd read, that 640x480 was standard.  Also, PhotoLapse 3 states "set [camera] in a low resolution (640x480)".

PhotoLapse is an easy, (click, click, click), program for me. Any comment?

Sometimes one finds one way and just carries on regardless and even makes blanket statements; incorrect, yet offered as ... ahem ... help!

I do appreciate the kind tone of your reply - thanks!

Best,

carlos

Yes you're right, 640x480 is certainly the standard resolution, and in most cases it is certainly sufficient. It's just that sometimes I want High Definition & High Quality timelapse videos, and I prefer using a slightly higher resolution, the main criteria being that it has to fit in the screen!

Actually I would say that the pros to higher resolution are:
- slightly better quality when viewing full screen (this point could probably be debated, this may actually be very "slight" when viewing the video...)
- you can extract better quality still pictures from the sequence, when you would otherwise have to choose between making a timelapse video and taking nice still pictures (eg sunrise, or when driving through a nice landscape, ...)
And the cons:
- takes more space on the memory card
- produces larger video files
- needs more power to play the video (some computers may have difficulties to play an h264 30fps video at 1600x1200!)

Anyway my goal in my first post was just to say that it was also possible, certainly not that it was better! ;-)

Concerning your "blanket statements" concerns, don't worry, first I don't think that your post was one, I just brought one precision and my view, which is completely subjective, and second it certainly happens to everybody to mistakenly make such statements, as long as everybody is respectful to others I don't think this is a problem :-).

PS: Maybe now we can stop "apologizing" to each other :-D

cyril42e,

Thanks for your informative reply - the saving 'stills' point is very well taken.

No apologies!

carlos

I just tried avidemux on mac os x running 10.5.3 and I didn't like it, broke on first import

I'm using final cut pro right now and it works nice
I know this isn't an option for a lot of people, btu I just thought I'd put my experience out there.
