I am using the 16MB card that shipped with the camera.  Not sure if I have any others sizes except the 2GBs - I do have several 16MBs, so I'll try a different one.  Could 16MB be too small?

No, the 16MB one is perfect...I dumped my SD400 (Ixus 50) successfully with the 16MB card and Cardtricks 1.41 on my first reply to your post...

@fe50
@jak5280

Strange... could it be that this cam doesn't work with 0-padded diskboot.bin, or requires a memclr like DryOS ?
anyway, here's some more diskboot.bin's to try out.
i'm attaching what i found in my udumper archives, udumper2.zip contains the vxworks versions that
were included in older (pre-newdryos) versions of CT.
udumper.zip is even older, try the ones in FF810000 directory first (AFAIK all ixus' firmware starts there)

also attached is a pic of what the beginning of a VxWorks dump looks like in BinText

hope that helps,

wim

whim,

Do I simply copy those files onto the formatted disk, or should I substitute the files into the carktricks directory and reformat?

Whim,

I copied each of the diskboot.bin files onto my formatted disk and tried dumping - net result was nothing.  I tried substituting the 8KB empty.DUM and again each diskboot.bin and nothing. Not sure what is next.  :(

I also tried this on a second SD430 camera (ver.req gives same firmware version and NoError.

I appreciate the help, but may be looking for a different camera model.

fe50 or whim,

Just to double check on the procedure:

I place the write protected bootable disk in the camera and press power and wait 1+ minute, then remove the battery and the card.  Is that correct? This is really bugging me.

Yes, it's correct & the cam must be powered on in playback mode.

Yes, I am powering it on in playback mode.  When I do this there is no response from the camera - but that is what is supposed to happen as well - right?

Yes, you'll get/see absolutely no response. The only sign for a written dump is the content of the empty.dum - file: this file first is completely filled with zeros ( 0 ), the dumper writes the firmware into this file. After that the file has also a lot of leading zeros, but "Show strings" goes over them and shows you some strings from the firmware (see wim's screenshot above).

So it's that simple: no strings means no dump...
