Motion detection LCD standby problems

My A570 camera has a problem with the motion detections cript:
Once the camera goes in the LCD standby mode (where the LCD is turned off), the motion detection stops. And since there is no way to disable it for more than 3 minutes, I was wondering if there is an easy way to overcome this problem.
My only thought would be to simulate a keypress every minute or so, but was wondering if this is a known problem, or if I am doing something wrong.

That worked, thanks!
Is there a way to turn off the backlight only? Would be very useful in scripts that depend on the LCD being on.

Not currently... but Dataghost has already found a way to control the backlight and demonstrated it in his experimental build for some camera models: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,1365.0.html. You're of course welcome to continue that work and add this functionality to ubasic if you're in a hurry...

edit: Almost forgot: You can also insert a plug into the AV jack... the LCD will turn off but motion detection will still work because the camera is updating the viewport in the AV output even though there isn't a TV set connected.
