Specific names for files (a-z) in continuous mode would be nice

This posting includes three requests which are numbered 1 to 3. Thank you.

1. Automatic naming for series of pictures (continuous mode)

I am fiddling around with HDR and need to shoot in continuous mode with my Canon 710IS a lot. After I transfer the files to my computer, I usually spend some time to rename the series of pictures I shot to keep them apart more easily. My camera does it like this:

IMG_XXXX.JPG

Here XXXX is a four digit number. I usually attach a letter for a picture in a series so it looks like this:

IMG_3123.JPG
IMG_3124a.JPG
IMG_3125b.JPG
IMG_3126c.JPG
IMG_3127.JPG

In this case the series consists of three pictures which I named a to c. Since I occasionally make mistakes by forgetting to turn off flash or make a mistake with the settings it is quite possible to have a similar looking picture that does not actually belong to a series. I have to decide which picture belongs to a series manually on my computer and automatic renaming would save quite some time.

My request is: Whenever continuous mode is used, a letter is attached to the filename so it is easy to identify series of pictures. Is this possible?

2. Include option to turn off flash by default

The above line says it all. I almost never use flash and sometimes I forget to turn it off before shooting. Especially annoying when the camera turns itself off after some time and I always have to turn it off manually again. An option to have it turned off by default would be nice.

3. Zoom when filming video

Is it possible to use the full 6x zoom of the 710IS? I only can go up to 4x. It is still nice to use it at all though.

Thank you for reading. I'm really grateful for this custom firmware.

1. Automatic naming for series of pictures (continuous mode)

I kind of like this idea. Using a single letter is not very good as continous mode can do hundreds of images and the naming convention shouldn't be too limiting. Also, I think dryos cameras still lack long filename support so we're stuck with 8.3 filenames.

2. Include option to turn off flash by default

I've never had a problem like this on my a570is, I think it remembers the flash setting for each mode. The AUTO mode and scene modes may be an exception, but I never use them. In any case this shouldn't be hard to implement if it's found to be necessary.. Does the A710IS forget the flash mode setting in P/Av/Tv/M modes too?. On the other hand I'd group this request with the one about remembering all the shooting settings Canon cameras like to forget (like continuous mode, focus settings, zoom position etc) or with the "custom startup script" one.

Meanwhile -- if you never use any scripts -- you can write a script to set flash off using set_prop and set the script to autorun.

3. Zoom when filming video

Is it possible to use the full 6x zoom of the 710IS? I only can go up to 4x. It is still nice to use it at all though.

I'd think yes it's very much possible... sounds like the feature isn't quite finished yet for the a710is.

CHDK is not custom firmware... Canon's firmware is still there, CHDK just fools around with it a bit in its RAM space.  ::)

Alright. How about this: When a series starts it puts an "A" before the number and when the next series starts, a "B" is put there. When the third series starts, you could just use the "A" again. It's just about identifying pictures that belong to a series and telling different series apart from each other. :-)

There is still the 8.3 max length problem.
Another solution: change the prefix IMG into say... COA & COB, as Canon does with pictures taken with the stitch assistant (STA, STB, ...).
