I am a total newbie and very excited about CHDK. Have a quick question. Can i use a 16GB card with CHDK. I dont need it to be bootable or anything. i dont mind manually updating the firmware everytime I need it, but can I do it?

Thanks for your help... cant wait to start using this

I have an SD870IS btw.

Hello & welcome taimoor !

No, at the moment you can't use a 16GB card with CHDK on your SD870.

For the SD870 the card MUST be bootable, that's the only way CHDK runs on this type of cameras (DryOS operating system, such cameras have not the "firmware update" method to start CHDK).

The multipartition feature (for SD cards bigger than 4GB, the cam switches the partition after booting) is not available for SD870 yet, so the maximum size for a SD card usable with CHDK is limited to 4GB, formated with FAT16 filesystem.

Hello,

no, it is not true.
You can use CHDK with IXUS860/SD870 and 16GB card.

Please try the firmware in this forum post: Added dual boot and video compression support for IXUS860/SD870IS

Use SDM to format the card. Then replace DISKBOOT.BIN on the 2MB partition with the one from the above forum post. Works for me :)
