So im new playing with CHDk and photography in general i supose and I was wondering if a really helpful person would help me figure this out ...

Im trying with long exposures and short exposures, bascially i want to capture light trails of cars in a night traffic scene... and i see that in ure pictures... the rest of the shot is beautifully focussed but the light trails are there... i eaither get, a blurry picture throughout... (camera on a flat surface, timer on) or i get a totally white image. I guess im not even too sure what settings i should be at for the shutter override and factor etc... im thinking i want a small apeprture and long exposure speed for the traffic and the opposite for the water drops...

Basically if someone could hold my hand through some basic ointers and settings.. i want to play with this stuff and not sure how to get started...

Thanks a million

Thanks for the links.. i have since been playing with long exosures too and have a quick question.

So every time I shoot a long exposure, it seems like the shot is severley overexposed... almost coming out to be white or too bright... i think i need to adjust the aperture, but I dont know how to do that, or if I CAN do that...

I am using allbest firmwarte and reading the manual it talks about a setting to override the aperture priority, but I dont have that option in my menus ... :(

SD870/IXUS860 ...

Apreciate any help.

Thanks

You can't control aperture in that camera, it has a ND filter that can't be controlled yet using CHDK.

Read the CHDK for Dummies guide, this particular section:
