yes you're right of course, but i have a mac and it will be a hassle to get a windows machine so i thought i would ask first.  also i'm just curious if microfungy was able to do something special to overcome the SD-1000's inability to see dual partitions, and if so, how he did it, and if that feat could be utilized for other things...

As mentioned elsewhere, I did not provide the SDM installer and have not seen the source code ..... honestly !  :)

Believe me, it will be less of an hassle to get access to a Windows machine than trying to do it with a Mac.

I know nothing about Mac's but from procedures published on yahoo SDM Group and elsewhere it seems rather complicated.

Try to get access to a Windows machine and in about 90 seconds you can have a bootable dual-partition card.

Just remove SDM if you wish.

no, no - i already made dual-partition cards, that's not my question.  i made 3 bootable dual-partition cards already, 2 of them autoboot successfully with an A650, and one of them autoboots with my SD-1000, which is great.  but my SD-1000 does not see the 2nd partition.  my question is only about how i get SD-1000 to do that.  the thread i referenced has a post in it from someone who claims SD-1000 cannot see dual partitions.  this SDM utility claims otherwise.  which is it, is my question.  but i hear what you're saying and i will go find a windows machine to test it on.

the thread i referenced

I do not see any reference to a thread.

Anyway, have you tried running the SDM installation in a dual-partition setup ?

Did you remember to use SDM Installer to make the first partition the 2MB one ?

I've used the SDM Installer to format my 8GB SanDisk and my SD-1000 can read/write correctly to the large partition, but only when using SDM.  If I try to use any other build/trunk (keeping the partitions in place) I can only read/write to the 2MB partition.  There has to be something that facilitates the usage of the large partition on the SD-1000 in the SDM build itself, not in the format of partitions.

Can someone shed some light as to how this might work and ways to get it to work with other builds, as I would prefer to use one of those if at all possible.

There is nothing special in the SDM build itself.

Do the other builds support multiple partitions ?

Yes, Microfunguy, as far as I can tell the builds I've tried are supposed to work with multiple partitions.  I've tried the Juciphox Autobuild, the Collaborative CHDK build and the latest official Allbest release, all to no avail.  Yours seems to be the only build that sees and saves correctly to the second partition (at least on my SD-1000), all the other builds refuse to see it and therefor make a CHDK folder hierarchy on the first partition.

Don't get me wrong, I like your build and all, but I don't have two cameras to do stereoscopic photos.  Again, any help on this matter would be most welcome!

And thanks Microfunguy.

I do not know anything about other builds, do you have a link for where it says multi-partitions are supported ?

Actually you may be on to something... I guess the builds are possibly multipartition compatible for a select few cameras (even though more can support it.)  What I'm gathering from this post:

Autoboot with 8GB and HDHacker Possibillity

...is that it would need to be incorporated into every make of camera build and cannot just be a quick conversion that covers all makes of camera.  How unfortunate.

Hrm, okay now is there anyway I might be able to build it in myself (with little to no coding knowledge?)  :P

Ehhh .. with no programming knowledge it does not seem very likely.   ;)

I did send the multipartition code to 'someone' before it was incorporated in SDM but it has not been added to trunk.

There is nothing stopping Jucifer or PhyrePhox adding it to their build, it is very easy to do.
