That's interesting about auto flash.  Perhaps a clue.

So I just did an experiment. 

1. I did not get RAW shots in P or Tv mode with the flash off but did with the flash on.

2. In Av, M or C modes, I got RAW's whether or not the flash was enabled!

jojo99:  You obviously did more thorough testing than I did.  I normally shoot in P mode and never thought to try this in the other modes.  Your information provides a workaround for those times when you don't want to use the flash.

As you point out, this may provide a lead for the programmers out there.

btw..
it's true...
juciphox build has the same problem (same base functions)... and on a650 i could reprduce this, when P mode flash off, i press short the shutter button it doesn't save raw, only if i hold it... strange...

It is frustrating waiting to see when the next release update will be completed and IF this problem can/will be fixed.  For me, one of the main reasons I setup CHKD is the RAW capability.

This is the same problem I have - I wrote about in this thread link (but I did not realise then that the flash-settings was the reason)

Also described in this thread link

I have this problem on my ixus 70 in all the different CHDK versions I have tried; allbest, stereodata-maker and the recent juciphox auto-build.

Was this issue solved in latest versions of CHDK? I'm about to buy A650IS. This is not a big issue for me, because
I almost always prefocus before taking the image, but anyway ...

It's solved only for the A630, A640 & for the Ixus950 (in the latest builds), for the TX-1 it seems to be solved, too (not yet in the trunk)...
