Can't find ps.fir

I'm trying to put either albest or SDM on my Canon Powershot SD870.
I've downloaded the zip files for both of those firmwares, but I can't find the file ps.fir. I'm using a mac with stuffit expander, but I've also tried it on my windows computer and I can't see the file still.
The allbest build only has the DISKBOOT.BIN file in it, the SDM has quite a few.
I can't see anything in the instructions that would indicate I'm doing something wrong, so any help would be great.

From what I can see, the SD870 is a "Dry OS" camera... The PS.FIR / "Update Firmware" method of loading CHDK is currently not supported...

The only method is the "Bootable" process of loading CHDK using the DISKBOOT.BIN file.

You are not doing anything wrong...

Do you have the information on how to properly format the SD/SDHC card and make it bootable? It is relatively easy with a Windows PC--it is a bit more work with a Mac.

Oh ok, that makes sense that I couldn't figure it out, I should've searched more on my specific camera.

I have the bootable wiki still open from when I first posted this.
Bootable SD card - CHDK Wiki

Those mac instructions are kind of beyond me, especially considering this is my first mac and I've only had it for 6 months.
I can just follow the Windows PC instructions with the card plugged into my windows computer right? Even though I'll be using the camera on the mac from there on out. I think fat16 is mac and windows compatible

If you are using SDM 1.71, the installer programme allows you to prepare a bootable single partition card in just 60 seconds .. I timed it.

A dual-partition card (8GB and larger if supported by your camera) takes a little longer.

Hi aldog,

after you've running the CHDK on your camera you should also read this: CHDK for Dummies #Odd and Tricky cameras with some hints for the SD870...it's the same for Allbest & for the SDM build.

Yes, once you have set the format and bootable flag--then using a compatible card reader on the Mac will be just fine... If you need to reformat / set bootable again--then back to the PC using the tools listed above.

Perhaps some Mac CHDK user has some updated suggestions on how best to do the format/bootable on a Mac...

Thanks for the tips.
I ended up trying cardtricks last night on my Windows, I was extremely frustrated at first, I could've been a little blinded by my own sleepiness but I couldn't see any links on how to install CHDK via cardtricks from within the cardtricks thread, or anywhere else directly related to downloaded cardtricks.
After quite a while of frustration I ended up finding this link CHDK For Newbies - How To Install - CHDK Wiki and had it in no time, those are great instructions. They should really be one of the first things people see. And I think it could be edited to be a bit longer to include a few more basic things. This may be a community slightly aimed at the more advanced user, but if you want to get more people on the bus than you have to appeal to a broader range.

But I got it all set up, got allbest installed, found a motion detection script, and did some sweet lighter shots. Motion detection was really the main reason I wanted CHDK, and CHDK is the reason I picked the sd870, so it was nice to FINALLY be shooting what I wanted it for (didn't have a card reader until yesterday).
Thanks for the great program. I've written quite a few guides and tutorials and taught people in general, how to use different applications and techniques (although mainly with digital art), so I think I might take a crack at editing a couple things in the wiki, plus my fresh mind might help in making the newb sections more new-user friendly
