I not have idea how use this log - becouse i dont know what log contain. Try log what camera "say" when lens (in M focus mode) connect to camera. So:
start camera with lens. Do log loading process.
start camera without lens. Do log this process to.
start camera without lens. When camera fully loaded attach lens. Log this all and share pls... 

dont toch NOTHING in camera. Buttons, sensors...

about face sensor. Of couse it is crazy but i sink possible make remote control.
Hmm intresting they can detect pulse from TV remote control... Need test...

Guys,

I don't know if it is important, but I've found V1.0.2 firmware for Rebel XT (350D), maybe by comparing those two versions (1.0.2 and 1.0.3) you can figure something out? Here it is http://web1.canon.jp/Imaging/dc/e3kr2102.exe . Cheers
