Struggling with getting started!

I'm trying to get CHDK on my A720 IS but despite following wiki I dont seem to be able to do it. There appears to be only one "version" of it listed and when I run the installer for that it makes my SD bootable, apparently copies the files etc, but I dont think I understand the rest of the process - when I start up the camera I get nothing different and nothing extra in menus. I wonder if I have done it correctly? The vers.req file works correctly, I got that far!

Any help appreciated!

James

Hello & welcome coyoteboy !

Have you seen this article in the CHDK wikia: CHDK_for_Dummies # I_have_the_camera_already ?

The A720 is a camera with the DryOS operating system, CHDK only works with the Autoload method, read here:
FAQ: There's no PS.FIR file in the CHDK download for my camera - What do I do ?.

Don't forget to write protect the memory card (Lock setting), this will start CHDK from a prepared SD card - then you'll see the CHDK splash screen...(although the card is locked you can save pictures on it, it's just a software thing).

Ahhh excellent! Thanks for that! I'm not sure how i missed the newbie subforum! Either way I've now got so many settings it'll take me a while to get used to them!

I used a 16mb card as a tester and a single 8mp RAW image fills it, to the point of causing the card reader to not read it again lol?! Oh well! I'll get the 4 gig card up and running tomorrow!

Thanks for the pointers, sorry for the dumb-[admin: avoid swearing please]-didnt-look-far-enough newbie post!

coyoteboy,

are you are swapping partitions before you try to read the file?
