I'm curious, is there an easy way to do the CHDK raw average (and/or merge) feature on the PC (linux)?

I found in some code from ewavr (RAW average: interesting examples here!), and after playing around with it (had to change the pixel count, took me a while to figure that out.. ), it even worked - but after converting the resulting *.CRW file to a DNG using dng4ps-2, the colors dont look quite right - way too saturated, and i cant get them right using ufraw. The original CRW files are looking good in ufraw.

Well, the code that does RAW merging is in core/raw_merge.c.
It looks a bit too complicated for me to try to understand it right now, but perhaps it could just be modified to compile on a PC, if you want to be certain to get the exact same results you'd get on the camera.

Although with the plentiful smart HDR/DOF/noise stacking there are for the PC, with all sort of bells and whistles... ;)

I asked because i know no solution for image stacking on linux. (except the gimp, but doing it manually is kinda annoying)

But i managed to get the ewavrs code to actually average the raw; it originally merged them together (as the name merge.c suggests .. ).

Still, if you know some nice feature-rich program, i'd be glad to know ..

What, no solution?
ImageJ can run on Linux, and so does ALE.

The NetPBM tools can also do these things with two images (look at pnmarith, pnmcomp and ppmmix).

ImageMagick comes with a "composite" tool (and then why not use "compare" to check the improvements you obtain by merging?).

LibPano and Hugin can stitch images, and Enblend can make the composite more seamless.


All of the above, except Hugin, are in the Debian repositories.

I've started a list of image stacking software on the wiki, including noise reduction, DOF stacking, HDR, astronomical stacking and panorama.

Additions and corrections are welcome.

The wiki table says that ALE can do depth-of-field stacking... how is that done exactly?

ALE can do "3D" in more complex ways than just depth-of-field stacking, however it's not very clear how to achieve that (as is the trademark of ALE).

You can see some samples here, and the relevant manual chapter is this.

I'd explain more if I understood more of it.
