The images are detail at 100%, The images were both cropped in PhotoShop and then just merged into 1 JPG. Yes I know I made it a jpeg to put on the web but the difference is CLEAR to see. And I know that in most cases you wouldn't zoom in 100% but if I wanted to crop a section of the image I would in effect be zooming in, maybe not 100% but none the less I would then start to notice the lack of detail in the printed image :(

I used DNG4PS-2 to convert the CRW to DNG and then loaded the DNG into Photoshop. I then cropped the origional JPG from the camera and the DNG at the same points. I then pasted the 2 into 1 file and saved that to a JPG for uploading to the web. I would NEVER use an image viewer to convert a photo, I use faststone/XnViewer/Irfanview to quickly look through them. I have RAWTherapee a few times as it is VERY good to balance the colours in there.

And how was the detail?

The detail was the same as in Photoshop. Thats Why I asked the quyestion. If the detail was just bad in photoshop then I would have used Rawtherapee and put it down to bad handling in photoshop.

Did you put an "untouched" CRW file into RT (not DNG!)?

I put a DNG through RT and it converted equal to a "pure" CRW.

So .... I'm thinking .... if you're moving the files in and out of the viewer you use, take the viewer out of the flow entirely and check the result .... just a thought .... shot in the dark!

No Comp. Sci. basis here!!!

WOW, that was it. It was dngs-2 that seemed to mess up all the detail. I loaded the CRW directly into RAWTherapee and then output to JPEG to compare withe the camera JPEG. The RAWTherapee is on the left and the camera JPG on the right.
Thanks for the suggestion Carlos as I would probebly not thought of it as almost everyone seemed to use DNG4PS-2 to convert to DNG.  Ohh and this is an ALPINE strawberry so the fruit is only about 8-10mm in diameter, it's just like a super mini strawberry plant.
