100% zoom for the 40D ?

Apparently the 40D has zoom limitations.  The small preview jpeg stored within the jpeg is displayed in the LCD.  As a result, one can't zoom the jpeg up far enough to get a really good indication of sharpness/focus.

Do you think one would be able to get the zoom to work on the real jpg rather than the preview jpg ?
