a little piece of a wooden kebab skewer makes your Canon S series last longer.

When you plug the Canon to a TV the screens go off and your picture is on the TV so you save battery power because the screens are off.
In motion detection, time lapse etc. you do not need the monitor but if you turn it off, so does the camera. If you trick the camera into thinking you are using an external screen to monitor, it will not turn off.
The S series has a special plug what has 4 connections (a stereo plug has 3) so if you use a stereoplug, you shorten one signal. I did it for a short time with no ill efect but I would not do that to the camera for a long time. So if you use a piece of a wooden kebab scewer (the slim ones not the big ones) your shooting will last much longer.

Little Woody Part II

OK, I modified the switch.
If you want to look at the monitor again, where to put little woody?
he is 1" long or 2.5 cm

If you remove some wood to get a flat surface, the woody stays in without triggering the switch
If you color the flat and round side , you do not need to remember which side up to switch off the screen.

green monitor on position

red monitor off position

and here you have the place to put it on the camera if you dont need it...

I have a mono 1/16" headphone jack tip.  Snaps in there perfect and shuts the lcd off.  The tip is from a power adapter that allows you to swap tips around.

Cheers,
Bill

Here's my take on the subject. :]
Had to trim the aglet a bit, used a knife and some high(er) grade sandpaper (600 grit? can't remember any more).

(the cam on my phone isn't very high grade)

 yellow_led_off
 green_led_off
 amber_led_off

to my scripts and see if that helps... I am getting about two hours of battery on time lapse scripts
