if for nothing else, i would like the USB-cable remote shutter-release on my brand spanking new S5 IS, that and the RAW output would be nice because i like to do aquarium macro photography which is super unforgiving

has anyone tried the USB-cable remote shutter-release?  how does it work?

TIA

yes it has been tried by a few hundreds of people, espcially who are using stereodatamaker (microfunguy's) builds... you need a small lithium battery(or two), a good switch, a few hundred ohm resistance and a usb cable
some description on the wikia page
USB Remote Cable - CHDK Wiki
allbest build still needs script for using remote cable

You can use a Ricoh CA-1 with SDM.

Just plug it in.

Technical details here : http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/sdm/ca1.htm

To me it doesn't look like you just plug it in. You also need to modify it, included some soldering. Am I right?

No.

That is only when using it to trigger two cameras.

You can use it straight out of the box.

Ok. My intention is to trigger two cameras for stereo photography, so is there a more detailed description how to connect the cables? Is there a way to connect two cameras without opening the remote and solder?

Yes, Grant Campos on the Yahoo StereoDataMaker can supply them :-

Do a search there or post a question for Grant or contact him directly.
