Hello,

I'm using the previous build (7 dec?) on an S2 IS and the fastest shutter time I could get is 1/3200. I've tried manual, P, Av, Tv, Auto, large aperture, small aperture, with and without flash, etc.
Now, I'm using the trick of half-release the shutter button and the LCD displays the picture exposed correctly (dimmed), but when the shot is taken it is still at 1/3200.


Another issue: I don't know how to use motion detection - I've run the scripts and once motion is triggered it keeps shooting pictures. If motion is not triggered then the display is set to off and I have to turn on the camera again. Perhaps I'm missing something here not written in the FAQ.
- camera is set auto-off at about 3 minutes
- display auto-off at about 10 seconds
- preview 2 secs
- full display information from original canon
- histogram on, battery status and clock, no zebra, focus information

When shooting automatically it seems to trigger again when the OSD appears (or CHDK appears).

I'm almost sure I'm doing something wrong since a lot of people have reported success with these.

I forgot to say that I did turn off image preview and am using the tricks you described but still motion detection does not work as intended. Also, since a trigger is given it seems to me that a long time is passing until the picture is taken (1 second?). I've tried modifying both the default motion detection script and lightning (strikes) script.
After the picture is taken, the camera pauses a little, displays preview on LCD, Canon OSD appears then CHDK OSD appears (in total about 1-2 seconds). I've tried turning CHDK OSD off but the scripting text still apears.


Yes, about the 1/3200 you are correct. The image is not dimmer when changing from default 1/3200 to shutter override and choosing faster timings. Interesting that the displayed preview (shoot, keep button half-pressed) is dimmer so perhaps my build has some problems (allbest-s2is-100f-8 I think) or I'm having some settings interfere with the result.

Well, I'll keep trying :)

Could someone point me the motion detection script that uses Allbest's build? I've done some searching but I can't find any. Thank you.

the basic md scripts will work - just check out mx3's scripts here:  http://mx3.ip-com.com.ua/chdk/scripts/.  test1 and test2 are probably what you're after.   they work with allbest.

and there is some more discussion and modified scripts if you hunt and peck around the md and lightning parts of the wiki.  I've not used them yet but they are pretty straightforward.  I'm just waiting for our next lightning storm. :)

About motion detection it seemed I was messing with the settings - it now works correctly, I had to give it an initialization delay >1 sec. Still, to me it seems it is triggering too slow. Does anybody have some settings to post here (script name and variables) that would trigger fast?
I'm using motion_detection.bas (I think).

Another problem is that the camera is shutting off if there is no activity while running the script. I turned off the power savings in the main menu, LCD shut-off time is set a 3 minutes (maximum). It then requires a manual restart of the camera. Is there any way to avoid having the screen shut off? Perhaps there is a setting in CHDK.

I'm setting up a surveillance camera for (almost) night operations with some ambient light (street lights). I figured that giving it a -2 exposure compensation, ISO 400 and burst mode for 2 seconds produces at least one usable picture per burst. That way, it is cheaper and more portable to use a DIGIC II camera instead of an <0.5lux camera with all that DVR stuff, not to mention the increased resolution that would appeal to forensics.
