Don't get many of these in the UK - so you need to be ready. Fortunately I'd read up on lightning photography a few hours before the storm. It lasted 2 hours, so plenty of shots. The first 1 uses motion detect, the other was a 15s exposure as it was dark by then (shown on the BBC website  :D) Enjoy  :)

Nice!, it's the first time I see those two words in the same sentence, UK and lightning  :haha

One question: What are those white dots on the second picture? did you use dark frame subtraction?

Could that be raindrops catching/focussing the lightning ?
As for Lightning UK, I suppose your referring to the (super) programmer of DVD Decrypter/ImgBurn  :D

Wontolla - I'm assuming you mean the tiny white dots when you zoom in (not the bright street lights to the left of the house). I didn't use dark frame subtraction - I rushed it out a bit. However, here's a version using Photoshop's dust & scratches filter...

Yeah, lightning in the UK is a bit hit & miss - although some years in the south east we get some good storms coming up from France

gjhai1, this one is certanly a good picture. It's almost like you told the lightning to go around the TV antenna of that house.

So you just submitted the image to the BBC and they decide to publish it?

Wontolla - Yep, after the storm the local BBC news station suggested that people send in their photos, so I did. Also went to the BBC weather site, and you can submit you photos there. Following day - there it was ! Big storms in the UK are big news !!

weeee... UK lightning!!  We've just had the wettest August in 100 years, and i'm going camping next week... hmmm!!  Just sprayed my tent with additional waterproofing!!

Anyhow, great picture, desperate to try the lightning scripts out.  Love the BBC's website and local news.  They always want viewers pictures, we are the best reporters!  Few weeks ago Southport, near me in the north west had a wall cloud (baby tornado) and really all the news coverage came from viewers pics and vids.  I even have the BBC's "text" number which you can send images to from your phone, if you ever get caught up in an emergency etc.
