Looking for a good stable CHDK.
Fist time doing any type of firmware hack on the camera.
Looking for ease of use, and to be sure not to damage the camera.

all CHDK version are good, but some are better  :D

You should read the following information pages on the CHDK wikia:
CHDK_in_Brief,
CHDK_for_Dummies,
FAQ

You can begin with the stable "Allbest 50" version, download informations are here: Downloads#Allbest_Build, the documentation is here: CHDK_firmware_usage and there: CHDK_firmware_usage/AllBest.

For more & newer features you can try the latest Allbest Autobuild version (=beta version) or the experimental, very new & powerful Juciphox branch...the download and documentation links you'll always find in the CHDK wikia...

CHDK does not change the firmware of your camera; if you get problems or if your camera crashes you have to remove the batteries for 1/2 a minute, then all will be fine again...

Any chdk build is safe to use and makes NO damage to your camera.
chdk is loaded from SD card, if you encounter any problem(but you will not, nobody reported any damage caused by chdk) just  format your card and chdk is gone.
even canon service can not detect the usage of chdk without having your sd card
(my camera was repaired under warranty after using chdk for months, the main panel had some mechanical problem)
by the moment there is 2 feature rich build: "Allbest" and the new "Collaborative" build, which is based on Allbest build just it has some extra features, a little bit experimental yet.
there is a special build created by microfunguy dedicated to stereo photography
