I was actually looking at an older version of the udumper source, where the start was hard coded too, so I just assumed anyone using it compiled their own. Your solution looks fine to me.

As an aside, you could also find the start by checking for the byte sequences I used in dumpchk. You'd have to check FFC first since FF81 would be an invalid address on some cams.

hey guys, a newbie to the CHDK but would love to contribute to supporting the sd880is / ixus870is. I'm not a "developer" by any means but I'm willing to try regardless of how futile my efforts will be :)

I just downloaded the Thickey's latest dump and I'm currently trying to learn what i can from the "Common Articles" section of the "For Developers" page.

I was wondering if the real developers out there had anything specific guidance that might help me help them better move along the process for them? i.e. testing a beta

Until there's a developer able to work on it (usually meaning someone who has the right skill set and has  access to the camera) there's not much you can do.

If you don't know C and assembly reasonably well, there's really no point in attempting a port.

thanks for the quick reply reyalp. I know its unrelated but I was hoping I learn to get by with some of my basic coding experience from PHP/MYSQL and a some copy paste. I guess, i just have to be patient. Thanks again.

Hey guys, just checking in to see if any of the programmers have been able to get their hands on a SD880is or been able to make any progress. Again let me know if I could be of any help testing.

I've had the camera for about a month now and I love it. I know I'll love it that much more with CHDK!

Thanks.

If someone starts porting, I'm sure there will be a post in one of the developer forums.

Hello!
I'm a newbie too. Perhaps someone can explain if there is a possibility to mount a firmware of the Ixus 860 IS (or another version) onto the Ixus 870 IS in order to use CHDK?
With the firmware-dump I'm just able to develop a CHDK-version that fits to the original Ixus 870 IS, right?
Thank you for any help!

Hello & welcome Phiffi !

...if there is a possibility to mount a firmware of the Ixus 860 IS (or another version) onto the Ixus 870 IS in order to use CHDK?
No, no way !
The CHDK must be ported individually to each camera firmware.

Yes, that's right, that's what we call 'porting CHDK to a new camera'.

Thanks for your answer!
In this case I will buy the Ixus 860IS.
Do you know if somebody is already working on a ported version of CHDK for the Ixus 870IS?
