By the way ewavr, you wrote on a720 you can override the display 'settings',did you test it on a720 only or did you draw your conclusion by analyzing the firmwares? Do you need help for other camera models,eg i could check for changed values in memorybrowser on my a620 when a/v cable plugged in?!?

Blame crappy LCD technology for this! Adjusting won't help much.
yeah, but on many canon models you can set the "brigthness" from the menu... only on these can not be set???:(( (a610 a620 a630 a640)

Hi,

I have the same problem on Ixus860.
Even though in the official menu on 860 the brightness can be adjusted,
I switch to the "darkest" side but still too bright for me.
The annoying thing is that the picture shown on 860's LCD is brighter and more beautiful than that on my PC screen.
Is it possible to control the brightness in CHDK? Or using the brightness function will cause damage to the camera?
Thanks!  :)

John

Hm I thought the discovery part was mostly done and that this was more of a porting and implementation issue... if I'm not mistaken, Dataghost's experimental branch from April(?) already adjusted LCD backlight PWM on some cameras, including my a570is 1.00e. It may not actually be documented which PWM controlled which illumination, but I think the disco mode (among other things) dimmed my LCD smoothly...
