Customization Interface

I have just started using CHDK on my A720, as a truly working version is now available. Terrific stuff, what an amazing enterprise this all is....

It is nice to see so many customizations availabe (menu colour, Noise Reduction on/off, font, etc), but these do not stick once the camera is powered down.  It would be great to have an external program that we can "set" our preferred settings, and then save them to the SD card.

Also, it would be useful if we had a firmware install yes/no option right at boot up (a boot disk is the only way to install on the A720), as sometimes we do not want it or will hand off the camera to someone who is not familiar with CHDK -- which can be confusing at first. Even better may just be the need to hold a specific key down that would enable the firmware load, rather than it occurring automatically.

While I'm wishing...it would also be great to find a way to create bootable SD cards above 4GB.

Many thanks to all those who have contributed to this project.

to not confuse people with CHDK when i lend them my camera i simply disable the OSD. They normally don't touch the printbutton so they won't know CHDK is loaded, and CHDK doesnt interfere with normal operation.
Don't know about your other questions though :)

The camera should save all settings in the file CHDK/CHDK.cfg. If it does not then there is the bug for A720 model. Because all other cameras save settings ok.

The first way is possible somehow. The second, I'm not sure. Anyway the CHDK will be always loaded, even if you choose 'no', but can be inactive.
Right now, you can unlock the SD-card to prevent of CHDK loading before pass the camera to somebody.

Saving in A720 works. Tested in 1g and 2g cards.

Cheers.

Configuration restore at startup (and CHDK (sub)folder creation) may not work on some (4G FAT16 ?) SD cards. In this case could help increasing CHDK statup delay (in core/main.c). Here I posted test vesion for A720 with 3 sec. delay

My daughter borrowed it when I was not around, she did not know to press the print button once turned on...

Hmm, my settings did not save? The SD card is locked at bootup, thought this had something to do with it (ya I know the pictures save...).  I'll try again.  Like I say, I only started experimenting with CHDK, I have a lot to learn....

OK, thanks I will give that a try.

Thanks for all the input.  I'll experiment a lot more before I make more (dumb) suggestions!

There are a lot of really smart people involved here, the thread on noise reduction is really intriguing, I get the feeling someone is going to come up with an algorithm that even the camera makers haven't thought of.
