Hell to everyone, i got a question, the SD card with the CHDK does it have to be write protected while in the camera? Or it can be used normally ( without protection ) for storing the shots i'm taking? Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

It depends on your camera, if it's got DryOS the write protect is necessary,
otherwise CHDK won't boot (your cam has DryOs, if your CHDK archive only
has
DISKBOOT.BIN, and no PS.FIR).
Non-DryOs cams can be run either way, but CHDK will only autostart with
the protection on, otherwise you need to start CHDK manually through the
Canon menu's Firmware Update.

That said, it does not really matter, because it will be able to save pics
anyway, CHDK makes your cam ignore the write-protect when it runs.

PS Try the user guide (link in my signature) for more details about
CHDK, other 2 links might be useful too ...

Thank you whim for the quick answer.
I had a brief look at the manual yesterday, i will read more in depth this week and ii'll check those links as well.

PS:
I believe CHDK is the best think happened to me after buying  the A550.
The camera now feels and behaves like a 1000 Euro model and it cost only 80 new!!!
I will recommend buying Canon cameras to anyone only because of CHDK, i wonder if the people from Canon appreciate all the great work you guys do.
Again thanks for everything
