You need to read and follow the directions on the wiki, e.g http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ and http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_in_Brief

If you still have questions, please post in the newbie help forum http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/board,34.0.html

I tried using shutter speed and i cant really know how fast it can go... on the LCD it only appears 1/1500 even if i choose 1/64000

Anyone been able to override shutter speed > 1/1500 on this camera ? Installed this CHDK port and have tested some motiondetection scripts (works fine !) and other intervalometers that also works.

In play mode the shutter speed show the correct override value up to 1/1500 but for all faster values it just shows 1/1500.
Is this just a "display error" or is it the actual shutter value ? How can I test & verify ?

The displayed value has nothing to do with the actual value. However, some cameras, especially those without a real iris, can not go much faster than the 'standard' max speed.

depending on what you consider "much faster" that can be either true or false  :D
as you can see here: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CameraFeatures  very few ixus/SD camera's have been tested: ixus950is/SD850is -> 1/5000 and ixus70/SD1000 -> 1/10000 sec

the page also has advice how to test your cam's limits

Well, based on just "how dark the scene is" test, my SD980 does not appear to go over 1/3000 second which is the factory default.

Hello, I have downloaded the zip file from Reply #221 and I already have the DISKBOOT.BIN and the PS.FI2 file in my root directory of SD card. I can start up the camera in review mode and i can even see the Firm Update.. option in my cameras menu section. When I try and update the firmware though, the screen blacks out and I have to remove the battery and SD card in order for it to work. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

my firmware version is GM1.00C

WOW !
I took the DREMEL test and got an almost sharp picture at 1/100000 with my IXUS 90 IS.

Mounted a disc on my Dremel 300, ran at full power (between 30000-33000 ref the tools documentation).
Took one shoot before start and one at full speed.

The full speed picture is almost as sharp as my reference photo !

Its almost unbelievable !!

I'm having the same problem as you with version GM1.00C. My guess is that it doesn't work with firmware 1.00C.
