help with my SD700 1.00b

Hello all,

I'm completely new to this and would appreciate any help.  I've been digging through all the information on this site and the web on CHDK for my SD700 with firmware 1.00b.  I was able to get the "allbest" firmware on my camera lastnight, and it seems to be working, except for the following:  I can not view the .crw raw files on my computer.  They transfer from the camera onto my pc, but I do not know how to view them.  I believe the camera is taking the picture correctly because it seems to take about 3-4 seconds for the camera to capture the pic, compared to under a second for a jpeg.  Also, I have a strange white bare covering a small area of the bottom left corner of the lcd screen.  Is this normal?

I'm asking these questions because as I was searching through the forums here, I see a lot of conflicting remarks about firmware 1.00b on the sd700 and if the chdk kit works on it or not.

Thanks for helping a noob.  :)

Update:

I have tried using dng4ps2 and fast stone viewer, and still no luck in opening .crw (.dng after conversion) files...

If there is an obvious answer that I'm just not finding by looking through the forums, I apologize.  Please point me in the right direction.

Update2:

Well I tried another build from (build June 20th, 2009) and not only does it have more features, including a on camera conversion to dng, and I am able to open them in raw therapee.

Sorry for the beginners questions, I just thought I'd post this to help anyone else who may benefit.

If anyone can offer any suggestions about what canon settings work best with raw images (size, scene selection, etc... ) it would be appreciated.  For now, I am just going to experiment.
