Is it possible to send an image directly to a computer (omitting the memory card?)

No, we haven't control over the USB port, we can only detect the USB power signal, no way to send / receive data...

Perhaps Eye-Fi (use the search function) may be helpful for you...

Well, except that some models have a built-in feature to do that, supported by PTP and via the Canon software called something or somesuch.

Although I suppose if this is being asked, it's a model without this feature that's being talked about. But just for completeness...

it'll work with the eye-fi card until its full.

i'm trying to get interested generated in resolving the full card problem as well. (deleting pics from the card) Deleting images with interval shooting
