Just a wild stab in the dark (and maybe someone who knows for certain can comment), but try deleting the "ver.req" file.  Maybe it's presence can prevent loading?  (you don't need it anymore.  OTOH, I assume you only added it when you were unable to boot it up, so perhaps this won't help.)

And also try another memory card if you have one.

The shortcut button on my s3 is the default for entering ALT mode, but it doesn't have any effect unless you first boot up CHDK off the card, which you have not yet been able to do.

Still no dice.  I have reset the camera, reformated 3 cards, re-uploaded and nothing.  Could it be a case sensitive thing?  I notice on the CHDK how to site it says:

"Copy the files PS.fir and Diskboot.bin into the root folder of your SD card."

When uploaded it is all upercase.  It tried to rename them but it didn't help.

I appreciate the help....if only I can find a pc.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!

For all that do not use a Mac, there is a built in un-zip utility that works 9 times out of 10.  On a whim I tried a third party unzip utility (Untar) (I think based off a Unix command line).  I reloaded onto the card.  (For the record this was the 45th time!)  BANG.  It is there!!!!

So for Mac users, do NOT use the built in unzip utility!!
