SIMPLE HACK?? MLU on PRINT button

The big demand on numerous Canon DSLR forums is that the Mirror Lock-up Enable and Mirror Lock-up-Disable functions - currently buried in the Custom-Functions, be put on the Print Button.

Clearly this is not dead simple,  but probably not too difficult, given that all the Print code is not used or wanted by more non-Japanese users.

Has anyone done this?

Also, I do like the Motion Detection idea, but I have a solution for that already that works reliably, and has all the options in place.

The lens micro-adjustment idea is valuable, especially for a camera I might convert to IR - this will probably be a 50D which has lens adjustment in it already, unless this feature comes along ;-)

Cheers,
Andrew

Any idea if the 40D can be made to send variable fps on the HDMI ?
The Movie mode can be implemented in 2 ways.
1. In camera recording - I believe this is what is being tried out. The camera signal is used with the inbuilt MJPEG engine to record. The output file is an avi with a sequence of JPEG images. From the posted sample the resolution seemed to be low. Just wondering if it was SD - and if 1080p recording is indeed possible. 12MB for 1080P is reasonable. 6MB would suffice for 720P/24P - and of course 3MB for any PAL/NTSC video (same as miniDV format).
A 8MB MJPEG avi for 720P/24P will be visually lossless - close to 90% quality JPEG.

2. Remove overlays and output HD at 24P (or variable fps) over HDMI. The HDMI signal (hopefully 10-bit or even 12-bit) can be recorded externally via an attached PC with a HDMI capture card.

I don't want to just post. How can I help ? I have actually worked on vxWorks for a long time. But I dont have a 40D or have any experience with CHDK.

The movie mode would be nice, but not something I would use.

What I'd really like to see on the 40D is a higher rez display image for the LCD.  The low rez image is just a waste of time the way it is now.  Some are going to say that it would take longer for it to display ... well, if you're going to spend 20-30 seconds to check the focus with what we have now, what's 2 more seconds for the image to display?

I just registered here, but I've been checking this site out for quite some time.

Please do the movie with 24fps and/or 30fps.  I think a change of firmware should be able to be implemented right ??? That is what the liveview is there for. 5D mark II has incorporated this so I am sure the technology is already embedded in the 450D ...

I am so excited ... sorry I cannot help in terms of programming or hacking though ...

Can the firmware from 5D mark II be used as a prototype ???

Thanks you brainy guys !!!
