Manual Focus on an a560?

Hello, I'm new here. I just got a Canon a560 for a lofi project I'm working on, and thought I read that with the CHDK firmware I could perform a manual focus with it. I've got the Allbest firmware on it right now and even though I'm changing the subject.dist override, the focus doesn't seem to change. I also read about a manual focus mode, which my camera model doesn't seem to have. Is it possible to do a manual focus on a Canon a560? I hope there is, I don't look forward to having to return it.

Thanks, in advance

I don't know (I have an S3), but your camera manual should tell you if you have it or not.  (Its a good thing to read, that manual).

I've looked through the manual for manual focus, but didn't find it. I was hoping that the CHDK firmware would enable it. Any one else know if it can?

That is annoying, that's what always seems to be wrong with open source, people are too selfish. The CHDK firmware usage/AllBest page says:
Quote
Custom setting for focus distance (in millimeters). Only works when camera is used in Manual Focusing mode.

So I'm guessing since my camera doesn't have a manual focus mode, it won't be able to override. I've also tried entering in values but with no luck. I'll have to test the script tomorrow, I've never done a script but I'll give it a shot, though it looks grim on the a560 manual focus front. I'll let you know, and if anyone else knows for sure, let me know.

BTW, I'm a Mac user and I'm trying to help. : )

Hey, I filled out that wiki page a bit with how to do scripts and get files on. For testing to see if get_focus and set_focus work on the a560, I tried the script at http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/UBASIC/Scripts:_Focus_Bracketing_with_set_focus_and_get_focus and it didn't work. It gets to where the first print and says "Shoot -2 (0)" and then hangs. So it seems like the get_focus got 0 and then it tries to set_focus and just hangs because it never gets to the shoot line.

I could write a simpler script to just set_focus, but I don't think it'll work, plus I'm not sure what the values should be for set_focus. If you could provide me a number that should work, I can write a script to make sure it doesn't work before I report it as not working. Thanks for you help by the way

Hej,
I got a A540 and if it's the same you can manual focus in all the non-automatic modes. Press the macro button for macro once, then another time and it should allow you to MF.

Hey yvesson, thanks but looks like the a560 doesn't have Manual Focus mode, I just checked the manual again and looked at the a540 manual, and my a560 definitely doesn't have manual focus...damn.
