delay in taking photo

I just installed CHDK on my S2IS.  With CHDK auto-running, there's a several second delay after taking a photo before it writes to the card.  During that time, my ALT key lights up blue.  With CHDK not running (card lock off), it works fun.  Is there a setting I need to change?

Sounds like you have raw enabled. They take some time to write.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

saving raw is not a default setting, so you either enabled it while playing around in the menu, or - which is very likely - you accidentially enabled saving raw by pressing the "shortcut" for it.

Thanks!  I went into the menu and turned off RAW.  Interestingly, before I did that, I looked at the files on my PC and they were the same size as usual and listed as JPG's, so I assumed I wasn't writing to RAW.  So I don't fully understand how just having that option on slowed down my camera.  But turning it off returned my speed to normal, so that was clearly it!  Thanks for your help!

p.s. I LOVE having a battery indicator now!  That was one of the primary reasons I installed CHDK.  That and the much easier manual focus now with the zoom.

raw files are saved additionally to the jpgs. they are not transferred when you connect the cam via usb. you can see them using the original canon transfer software or a cardreader. anyhow, you should probably dive into the wiki :)
