i merged your two posts of the SAME content. sure you need help, but for crying out loud - why do people post things multiple times. i think i will never get it.

anyhow, it is very likely that your a610 will not work anymore. but on the other hand, how is upgrading an a610 with the a620 firmware even remotely possible? and why the hell did you want to update your a610 with the a620 firmware in the first place?
anyhow, what happens when you start the cam with NO SDCARD INSERTED (and the lid closed)?

sorry, phyrephow.I try to upgrade my 610 with the 610chdk firmware fist but the " update file error:,so i try the 620 firmware and " 1.0.0.0----1.0.0.0 ''displyed in the lcd ,I press ok and seems it update successful about a min later.but when i open the carame there is only about 2/3 lcd has image,i don't know how to fix it.I think pherhaps i can reupgrate it with the office firmware,who can help me?

still not working as expected?

if you updated to a620 you are in big trouble :'(, maybe dataghost or evawr can help you

ps, for wikia editors: we should write to wikia, about the importance of the firmware version check, with huge, red text  :D

Let's clarify something, just in case: We don't call CHDK firmware. We call it software. What we call firmware is Canon's original firmware that lies inside your camera. For some cameras, Canon has published firmware updates. For all CHDK compatible cameras, we have read Canon's firmware from the camera's memory to learn how to run software (CHDK) on top of it.

When you install CHDK, you do not replace or modify firmware. You just put a program (CHDK) on the SD card and run it (either using autoboot or by fooling the camera to think you have a firmware update on the card when in reality you only have CHDK there).

So, are you trying to install an a620 version of CHDK on your a610? It will not work, and you shouldn't even try it.

Or, have you really done what you say you have i.e. found an official or unofficial Canon firmware update package for a620 and somehow managed to install it to your a610 (which sounds just plain insane)?


Now,

1) take your SD card out of the camera.
2) take the batteries out of the camera
3) take the backup "coin" battery out of the camera
4) wait a few minutes
5) put all those batteries back and then power on your camera WITHOUT THE SD CARD. If the camera is still broken, I believe you really bricked it (unless the batteries are dead).

If the camera works, just format your SD card and follow CHDK install instructions more closely.

I cannot believe that ps.fir from A620 can be started in another camera, because firmware update procedure checks camera model identifier (PID) in upgrade file (ps.fir ).
However, in unofficial russian repairer's forum (h*t*t*p://monitor.net.ru/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=192) can be found unofficial (=service) firmware upgrade A610 to 1.00F (even with rescue loader).

Thank you for your message ewavr.I download the a610 firmware and i still can't install this firmware but i can install the 620 firmware like the chdk firmware but the camera is can't take picture normally(there is only about 2/3 lcd has image). my camera is 610 but the exif of the picture taken by my camera is 620,I don't know why . maybe some part of my camera is a620 but the ccd is 610's.can I  modify the 610 firmware to accepted by the 620? how can i do that?

he really got a620 firmware on a610:)
is this possible???
doesn't it mess up controls, led adresses, or it's almost the same hardware???
