I am shopping for a Cannon (not the gun kind)! ::)
For now I am using a Panasonic DMZ TZ-1 10x optical, 5mp and a great Tele-Elmarit lens rather than the Tele-Elmar found on most Panasonics.

I also have a Kodak Z730 (4x optical, 5mp and a great optical view finder) and a Kodak Z7590 10x optical and 5 mp.

I am interested in a Canon with:
Time Lapse
Stitch Assist
Color Accent
Color Swap

The Sd870 IS is interesting but I think I can do without the 28mm since I like panorama and the barreling and vignetting of the 28 could be a problem (35mm should be good).
I also do not care for the lcd wheel for shifing modes (though I hear it can be turned off).
I think (not sure) IS is good to have.
A 8mp or better would be nice and a long focal length is not needed (despite is they tend to get soft in focus).

It looks like the SD series are the only models with the "bells and whistles" I like.  Can anyone recomend a camera other than a SD that could be bumped up with CHDK? Are there any bad points to CHDK modification? Will it mess up or knock out any features in my Canon?

Thanks,

  :D

hi bill

chdk does not mess up anything, just adds some extra features, does not lock anything
features like Stich assist, Color Accent and Color Swap are camera dependent, chdk can not add features like these (yet)
check this wiki article
CHDK for Dummies - CHDK Wiki
the download page and chdk capable camera models are here:
CHDK Download - build 0.5.1, revision #514
remember to doublecheck the camera's firmware version

Just to let you know, before you make a decision.

The Powershot S5 IS has Color Accent, Color Swap and a very good Stitch Assist (not only horizontal and vertical but combined!).
Regarding the Time Lapse, you get that with CHDK.

But you already have 2 bulky 10x zoom. I guess your next camera should be compact.
