Can't get CHDK to work

Hello, I am trying to install CHDK on my Canon PowerShot G10 (planning to do timelapse), but spent whole day and can't get it to work.

When I check firmware version on the camera I get "Firmwave Ver. GM1.00F", occasionaly I get different window which just says "Firmwave Version 1.0.0.0". I have tried to use Canon firmware updater to 1.0.2.0, it asked me for serial, I downloaded, installed, some new file has appeared on SD card. However when I check firmware on the camera, it stills says that it is 1.0.0.0. When I run the updater again, it says that firmware is already updated. Noticed, that if I format the SD card, I can reinstall the firmware, so it is not permanent.

I should mention that no matter what I do, the vers.req file on the SD card doesn't happen to get any firmware info in it.

Now, I have tried to install CHDK for G10 (both 102a and 104 versions just for the sake of trying). I have followed the instructions - unpacked the files on the SD card via cardreader (ended up with a few files in root and CHDK folder with lots of files), then insterted the card into the camera, got into the menu, but not getting "firm update" option available.

What should I do? Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I have seen another thread with the issue, but it was something about Mac, so no help for me - I use win7 64.

The builds available for the G10 are for 102a, 103b and 104a firmware versions. If yours is 100f then there's no CHDK available for you at the moment.
Not really... ;)

@theunit:
Just update the camera's firmware 1.00F to 1.02A with the official, PERMANENT Canon firmware update first:
* http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/G10#Official_firmware_update
...then use the available 1.02A CHDK version.

CHDK is NOT a firmware update, just a non-permanet software, loaded with the help of the cameras firmware update mechanism - the camera's internal firmware doenst change when you use load/use CHDK.

An official firmware update provided by Canon is PERMANENT and changes the internal camera software !

If you've already successfully installed the Canon update, your camera should have now ver 1.02A - check this either with the ver.req method or with an image you've taken AFTER the update and the ACID tool:
* http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/acid/acid.html
...this tool can also download the correct 1.02A CHDK package for you.

Power on the camera in playback mode [>], with the lens retracted.

It looks as though you're out of luck currently. The builds available for the G10 are for 102a, 103b and 104a firmware versions. If yours is 100f then there's no CHDK available for you at the moment.
Just update the camera's firmware 1.00F to 1.02A with the official, PERMANENT Canon firmware update first:

...then use the available 1.02A CHDK version.
When I started the G10 porting process,  I had a 1.00F version.   The official firmware update from Canon was easy to do and worked well so I made the decision not to support the 1.00f and 1.00h versions  Doing the 1.02a, 1.03b and 1.04a all at the same time was enough work as it was.

If there is a good reason to have a 1.00f version, let me know and I'll consider adding it too.

Thanks for the answers. Finally I made it.

If someone will have similar problems, I'll explain what I did to make everything work.

I thought I should've used the camera's "power on" button and then enter playback mode. I could not find "firm update" button in the menu. It appears that playback button itself can turn camera on, and - suddenly - firmware update button is working. Updated to 102a.
After that I couldn't install CHDK for good 45 mins, but guess the problem was that I was unzipping all files to root of SD card. After I unzipped into separate CHDK folder - everything worked fine.

I'm having the exact same problem.  I download the CHDK, unzip, copy the files to the card on my computer, then transfer the card to the camera.  Everything works up until the Firm Update step.  I can SET/DISPLAY to see current Firmware (1.03B), but no where in any of the menus is there a Firmware Update selection.

And YES, I did turn the camera on using the playback ([>]) button.  Not the main power button.

What am I missing?

Just to be clear, I'm at the screen that says "No Image," I press MENU, and I see four menus across the top.  Playback (>), Print, Tools, and Themes.  I've checked under all of these sub menus, and none has "Firm Update."

CHDK for the G10 is really well tested and mature so its probably not a CHDK problem.  Two things to check :

1) Do you have a ps.fi2 file (the CHDK file that loads via the firmware update method) in the root of your SD card?
2) Are you using a "Mac" computer to prepare the files ?  If so,  take a look at this : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac#Still_Having_Trouble.3F
