SD series exposure algorithms?

Does anyone know where I might gain insight into the algorithms used by the Canon engineers to determine aperture and speed, but I sure can't figure their algorithm out.  Or, to put it another way, short of using CHDK firmware, can I trick my SD750 into using an aperture that **I** and not the camera want?

Your camera does not have a controllable aperture. There's only a hole with a fixed width somewhere in your lens assembly..

The whole IXUS (aka SD*) series does not have an aperture. Some of the older A* models dont have apertures too.
