Hi,
i just bought a cardreader today ;-)
But now i got stuck with making a bootable card....
I dont know what to do with the g7.blinker.
And i get a trojanwanring too !!!!!
What do I have to do?

Hi Toby,

- trojan: You use AVG ? - If you downloaded Cardtricks 1.41 from the 2 links from the wikia page, then the download is clean (see A590IS porting...), false positive in AVG...you can try other virus scanners, e.g. check the file at virus.org: Virus.Org :: Malware Scanning Service

- g7.blinker: forget it, you don't need it. In Cardtricks, click FORMAT (backup your images first !), click MAKE BOOTABLE, click DOWNLOAD CHDK and download the version for your camera, then click CHDK -> CARD to install CHDK on your card. Now lock the card & you're ready...

OMG !
It seemed to work, but when i pressed disp in "face"-mode, all went black, but i still could change the zoom.
Now turning off and on the cam, in facemode it stays black.
What did I do wrong?
I used the bootable.zip

Hi, please dont be mad for me asking something like this - when I hold func and press disp in play mode, i get "firmwre ver. 1.0.1.0" - so do I have B or E firmware? I dont have a card reader yet... But someone had to know this one...

PS not sure, but you might even need a card reader for that...in that case, just try both versions.

Hello,
As a newcomer to CHDK, I am having a great deal of difficulty in getting
started. I have a Powershot A590IS, with firmware version GM1.01B,
Jan 24 2008 20:41:51 and Adj ver.011.002.

I have downloaded the file for this camera (currently a590-101b-0.8.1-full.zip)
and cardtricks 1.41.

I noticed that there is no PS.FIR in the zip file and the instructions
state that I therefore have to make the card bootable.

Firstly cardtricks 1.41 does not work at all - clicking on the program
does nothing, the program will not run. Nor will version 1.40.

I downloaded versions 1.39 thru 1.25, all of which run but although they
recognise the 1gb sd card, the format button does not format the card - no
files wiped, nothing.
Also, the 'make bootable' button resolutely remains greyed out.

I can format the card from within Windows, so I know there is nothing wrong
with the card itself. However, Windows does not permit me to make the card
bootable.

I have now downloaded bootable.exe from 'drop.io/chdksoft', which seems to do something, but makes no difference when I put the card in the camera.

Even copying the files to the card and putting it in the camera doesn't
work - no splash screen, no menu option, no <alt> function. And yes, I
have locked it, although I don't know how the camera can possibly write
to a physically locked card.

At this moment, I am very frustrated. I am obviously doing something
wrong, but I cannot see what it is.

Any assistance will be greatly welcomed.

Hi Pagnol,

if you downloaded cardtricks from one of the official release points that whim mentioned earlier, for example this one, and the program does not run at all, then I would guess that something on your computer is either missing or malfunctioning. Maybe there is some kind of system protection software interfering - do you have something like Norton AV or Kaspersky IS installed?

Which OS do you run, which service pack?

Maybe whim can tell us something about the framework that cardtricks needs to run properly. It seems to be pretty standard stuff though, since most of us have no problems at all.

As for the locked card: the lock switch is just a piece of plastic that tells a sensor in the camera that this card should be treated as locked. CHDK just ignores that sensor, and writes anyway, since there is no physical barrier that would prevent this.
