Maybe I found replacement of PostLedMessage for A590:

int _LEDDrive(int led, int action);  // only for a590 !!!

so, try this function:

void ubasic_set_led(int led, int state, int bright)
{
  _LEDDrive(led, state<=1 ? !state : state);
}

Address of LEDDrive is 0xFFC34CE0 for 1.00E

@karenk
OT, but you can buy them from canon dealers (eg newegg Newegg.com - Canon ACK800 AC Adapter Kit ) at an outrageous price, or get cheap imitations of dubious quality on ebay or your favorite china gadget source.

Thanks! For $32 I think I'll go with the Canon product from NewEgg. By the time I build my own properly regulated adapter, it would probably cost that much in material and time.

optical zoom in video "does" work on this camera. the exception is, you must partially optically zoom in b4 starting the video. then full optical zoom will function with the lens motor noise of coarse...

i found a power transformer rated at the same voltage output as the canon ac adapter 4.0v? its the size of a typical cell phone charger. much smaller and lighter than the oem canon. i tested it with a dmm and found the voltages under load to be exactly as printed on the adapter. its fully protected and uses 5% (gold band) and better on resistance. it appears the internal componets are of high quality, although no origin markings, probably made in china. but certainly based on the quality of the build a good steal for $11.00.  on ebay...

Has anyone found or made an external/AC power supply for the A590 (or one of the other cameras that uses 2 AA batteries)?

Sounds like a great deal if it works. I figured getting the output voltage right would be easy. But I don't know the amount of ripple the camera will tolerate. That's why I decided to buy rather than build. The camera might have enough internal regulation to make it reasonably tolerant of ripple -- or not. :(

i dont think ripple will play into this type of device as were not working with any kind of sine wave, being true, half or full wave. the power adapter is exactly the same rating as the canon ack800. 3.2 volt and current drain measured identical. the only difference other than size was the amp output. 1.5 for the canon and 1.4 for the adapter. not an issue with this camera.

Overwrite should be enough if you're just updating trunk builds, this will also assure your photo's & CCHDK.CFG are safe (autobuild zip's don't include a CCHDK.CFG & don't do anything to the DCIM folder)
Formatting might be better if you change to substantially different (like very old and/or branch) builds - but you then
need to watch over your photo's & .CFG by yourself.

I tried to bring the whole program from one card to another for a second camera.  Everything worked except the custom menu.  Does anyone have a guess why it didn't copy properly for use on the other camera?

Hello,

gave 0.8.10-638 a try this morning (590is, OS 1.0.0e). Seems not what I expected :-(

Language is always english, unable to select any other one. Sound doesn't work (only tried metronome.lua). Grid selection doesn't work. Put my old cchdk.cfg to CHDK directory after extracting - seems no setting is taken from there.

Maybe I did something wrong - will have to setup with a fresh card. Or did I miss some important information?

P.S.: even file reader shows only blocks - seems there's something wrong with file access?
