Hi duves,

I'm not sure if I see this correctly on your pictures, but - is that a single button cell in that remote trigger? As far as I know, these are rated at max. 3.0 V. According to these old entries here...

@ cyro - A 3V battery may not be enough. e.g.: the A570IS is reported to need 4.5V
ref: CameraFeatures - CHDK Wiki

Concerning the remote shutter release cable, I can confirm that a 3V CR2032 did not work, so I am using a 4.5 V 3R12 battery. It seems to work.

...you might need a higher voltage. You could stack 3 button cells of a 1.5 V type, for example. Or you could use the 3R12 type that gho mentioned, although that wouldn't fit into your casing.

Hope this helps,
cyro

PS: You can test if it would work at all, by simply setting the camera up for remote triggering, and then connect it via USB to a computer - which connects 5 V to the cam.

PPS: Did you make that box yourself? Including LED and everything? Nice work!

Hi cyro.
Thanks for your reply.
1.Yes, I have single button battery 3V CR 2032 (battery box is from my old destroed motherboard). Is not it true?
2.Yes, this box is my work. This box is from pencil sharpener. Box include one red LED.

I wonder does A590 IS have hardware capabilities for making videos in 30 fps at resolution 640x480(and which part of camera's hardware is responsible for that?)? I hope someone will succeed to "unlock" that feature :), if it's possible. Good luck!

This comment has been raised several times in this thread. I can't imagine there would be a hardware limitation preventing the A590IS from capturing 640x480@30fps - even the older A series cameras did that. Also, it is using the DIGIC III Image Processor which is the same engine used in much higher-end models.

I believe that this is strictly a marketing imposed limitation to help differentiate and sell their higher-end models. The A590IS is quite a capable little camera, and it is quite disappointing that Canon would stoop to such tactics.

If this could be handled via CHDK, there would be a lot of happy A590IS owners. It might also force Canon's hand to release updated firmware that enables it natively.

I guess what I'm saying is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :)

I agree with that, but i doubt that Canon will release firmware update that enables 30fps at highest resolution, it's clearly that they made this move to enforce us to buy more expensive models that have that feature. Let's hope CHDK developers will find way how to "unlock" those 30fps!

I have noticed that using a aperture F 11 the results are photos with a lot of noise. Is this normal?, There are some parameters that I have to adjust to improve this? Greetings

@harpman

i guess it is normal, if that results in too high an ISO value ... how about disabling AutoISO

On A710IS i have zebra working since i have chdk. but since December i have problems: zebra crashes (LCD picture frozen OR camera shuts down insantly, in some build works, but in other builds crashes when shooting with zebra instanly after startup.) I think in build<600 OK

found another bug.

the dark frame subtraction option does nothing, even if i set it to off it still shoots a dark frame

=/

i wanted to shoot some star trails tonight, but looks like i won't be =(

with dark frame subtraction on, there would be gaps in the trails from where it stopped to shoot a dark frame between exposures.

anyone else have this problem?

Noise reduction is now fixed. Thanks to ewavr we can now take astronomy pictures with the A590. ::)
