I just bought another A590IS, as I broke my previous one.
Now the issue with the new one is I have two Hot pixels. They are white on short exposures and they turn black on long exposures. I attached a picture of them.

Will I be able to fix this using chdk? or should I just leave it like this. It doesn't bother me that much, it's just that it's brand new and I wasn't expecting any issues of this sort.

@ DreamOn Why dont you just change the sensorchip?
You should have enough spareparts *g* ;-)

I have a question....
Is it somehow possible to make an external Mic, using USB or that other plug???
Can it be made with chdk????

Was video quality control (w/o bitrate) also added to the A590IS (a590-101b-0.9.7-725-full.zip) ?

I've had some crashes when using DNG, not too often but they do happen.
Also, the DNGs are not coming out as sharp as the JPGs.
I am using UFRAW with the DNGs.

I am using UFRAW with the DNGs.
Entire point of RAW photography is that the camera does not apply any sharpening or anything else. So just include some sort of sharpening into your postprocessing.
The reason the picture looks not sharp is that it is artificially softened by the AA filter in front of the sensor to avoid various artefacts where e.g. thin lines only get to some of the pixels and the result is the line now turns to a serie of different-colored dots/segments.
By softening it a bit, it gets distributed across more nearby pixels, allowing later debayerization to actually show right colors for entire duration of the line.

Thanks verygreen.

I know some cameras apply some internal sharpening but I
guess they don't do that with RAWs (CHDK DNGs in this case)
files as you said. Thanks for pointing that out.

I wish UFRAW had some sort sharpening but it doesn't. I am
using IrfanView to add sharpening after using UFRAW and the
images look very good. I'm hoping not to miss image quality
way.

Noise can also be an issue when using ISO 200 or higher in the
A590IS. UFRAW has a denoise but it can make the image lose
detail in some areas that aren't noisy.

In any case, it is nice to have CHDK DNGs (Thanks CHDK team! ).

I guess the next thing should be to add in the CHDK menu
options to turn sharpening and noise reduction on/off.

There something wasn't working right in the porting (a590 fw 1.01B), because with CHDK sometimes buttons aren't responding, as instead they do whithout CHDK active..

For example two of the more common:
1) just after taking a photo if you press any other button the quick LCD preview hangs on and won't disappear until you switch to review mode and then back..
2) when you use the review mode and zoom on a detail of a photo (the blue led lights on everytime you touch the zoom lever) you aren't able to pan around with the joystick, to see something aren't just in the middle of the photo (and this obviously won't happen if CHDK isn't active)

Furthermore I don't understand why with the last autobuild is no more possible to set aperture over f/16 (I'm sure the camera can go fairly to f/20 because I tested it) even if the diffraction was really visible with those settings I think it's better let the user decide..

Those apertures are equivalent to f96 and f120 as far as depth-of-field is concerned !!!!!

Nothing will be sharp.

I'm perfectly aware of the equivalent pdc f-numbers on a reflex! ;) In extreme cases could even be useful (no ND filter, narrow pdc in high macro, ecc.) and yes I'm perfectly aware even of the optics drawbacks: indeed the very visible diffraction pattern could ever be interesting to anyone.. :D
But still I see no reason to lock this.. (there are problem even with high shutter speed but those aren't been limited)

Yes, since the A590IS doesn't have ND, an aperture of F22 could
help in taking a picture of a water fall and show some water
movement... : )  Hey what about some sea waves :) Please bring
it back if possible.

I tested mine today and when I set it at F16 with CHDK, I only get
F11 in the Exif.
