@dvip,
this may take some time as I don't have an A590, the code was all in place but was not enabled.
The Diskboot file was for the 101B, sorry I forgot to say that before.

I have checked the function call address for each function used, but I will need to recheck the code against the firmware dump.

If we can get it to work it should allow full control over the video (bitrate and quality modes).

I don't have the keys for this camera handy so I will just build the bootdisk for now.
I'll post another version here if I can find anything that looks to be the cause of the crash.

OK, can someone try this version please.

This version does NOT implement the video compression / optical zoom, or mic mute
but should not crash.

If the camera starts and can record video as normal we may be in with a chance.

this version is for 101 B firmware

Just tested the DISKBOOT.BIN  for the 101B and it works. The camera started and recorded video with no problems.

No problem with my A590IS (101b) either.

Good,
now for the next step.
This version should enable the optical zoom and mic mute,
please check and let me know your results.

Also, can you confirm that the menu has
Mute during Video,
Video Mode
Bitrate
and Quality options present.

Mute during zooming works! And, yes, the menu has the Video mode, video bitrate,video quality and mute during zooming controls.

Good news indeed,
can you confirm that the Zoom now works correctly.
mngc said that the the optical zoom was a bit "funny" before.

I am now at work, but if all is well I will post another version tonight with the quality / bitrate updates.

I  busy, but i will test the new firmwares. Thanks oldgit the test build, and thanks too firmware testers.

The zoom modes "funny", because try the zoom test on old oldgit firmware has DISABLED zoom feature. I try it, and zoom works. The first build on my camera not crash (card with only DISKBOOT.BIN). Please note, not have enought time to test CORRECTLY these firmwares.

How the zoom mode works normally on another camera?  When first use, the zoom ring must be rotate to minimum zoom?

If the optical zoom feture is working correctly it should NOT be required to rotate to minimum zoom.

You should be able to just start the recording and zoom optical as and when you want.
